- Life began in New Jersey where her dad served the USAF, before having been brought to a family farm in Missouri where her love for nature first took root. Where barefoot days and barefoot faith shaped her early world. Among wildflowers and creek beds, she first learned to listen—not just to the rustling leaves and birdsong, but to the sacred rhythms hidden in nature’s breath.
The daughter of a preacher, she wandered through thirteen schools and countless landscapes—from the open skies of Oklahoma, to the hills of Alabama, to snowy landscape of Michigan, to the waterfall trails of Georgia—always searching for home and finding it again and again in earth, wind, and water.
Her journey, both tender and tenacious, led her through a young marriage and motherhood, her sons (Jacob, whom arrived in a whirlwind via an emergency cesarean and two years later, Joshua, fast & fierce via VBAC), four beautiful granddaughters (Amilia, Evelyn, Elizabeth & Virginia), and a gift after 50, her husband, Michael to walk alongside her through unexpected callings, and holy work. Guided on a path of birth and hospice, she has stood at the threshold of life and the edge of eternity, bearing witness to the sacred in both beginnings and endings.
But her true awakening came through stillness—through walking in the footsteps of those who came before her and honoring the living voice of God carried on the wind. Lorie now walks not only through forests and gardens, but in the echoes of the women in her family. Her mother Virginia, one who fashioned her steps, a retired med/surg & hospice nurse but forever caretaker and nurturer, and her late paternal great-great-grandmother Naomi of the Sioux Tribe, who walked in the elemental knowing of earth and sky, and her maternal greatgrandmother Sarah Jane (Shannon) Benham, a midwife and servant-hearted healer who—at age 65—transformed an abandoned schoolhouse into Missouri’s first domiciliary, nurturing the elderly with dignity and love. These women walked in sacred rhythm with the land and its people, and Lorie now walks beside them, listening to the same whispered wisdom and caring for others with the love, and respect that is knit together as part of her inner knowing.
Her first book is “The Sacred Journey” and through leading of the Holy Spirit through poetic prose, scripture, elemental insight, and the knowledge gained through years of serving Lorie invites you to return to the rhythms of the earth and rediscover the Voice of God woven through creation, birth, life and transformation. Time, the most precious gift we have been given, it continues, along with a knowing of being abundantly blessed to walk with families once again through home-birth, life and transition, advocating for medical autonomy and informed choice as she also works to finalize her 2nd written work - The Sacred Journey of Herbs, Trees, Flowers and Bees, a written offering of both physical and spiritual healing.
